About

Hi! I’m Kayla. I’m the founder of SustainLNK.

I grew up in the country near Blair, Nebraska, before moving to Lincoln for school. I graduated from UNL in 2022, and I currently work as an Operations Analyst for StarTran, the public transportation provider for the City of Lincoln. SustainLNK got its footing as my Honors Senior Project at UNL, and has lived on as a personal project.

Though our socials might not be active, this site sure is!

How it started

The more time I spend in Lincoln, the more opportunities to live a sustainable and conscious lifestyle I find. However, it took time to discover all of these opportunities – and it can be hard to find details on how to get involved, and intimidating to take those first steps.

SustainLNK first came about as a personal project where I could compile all of the different resources I found – more for my own benefit than anyone else’s. However, as time went on, I began to see the benefit this site could provide for others in the community – and before I knew it, SustainLNK became my UNL Honors Program senior project.

How to use the site

There are a variety of ways to use the site – for a full effect, begin by picking a category at the top that interests you the most, and work your way through the web of pages until you come upon an action item that best fits your lifestyle. Details and links are available on that page, which should contain all of the information you need to get started.

Just hoping to look around for now? No worries! Scroll through the home page, visit the blog, or use the search bar below to browse specific pages.

Special thanks

This site has been more than a year in the making, and never would have become reality without the help of many people around me. In particular, I would like to give a special thanks to:

  • Dr. Rachael Shah. I first had Dr. Shah as an instructor for a class on Writing and Communities in Spring 2020. Dr. Shah believed in SustainLNK from the moment I shared the idea with her, and has always been available to meet and grow my expectations for what SustainLNK could become.
  • Kyle Kruske. Without the constant support of my partner, I would have given up on SustainLNK just a few weeks in – but Kyle kept my goal alive, and cheered me on through its launch and beyond.
