Staying updated is about more than just reading headlines.
Local newspapers often only write about bills in the legislature immediately after they’re introduced, or after they’ve been passed – and it’s the moments in between that matter the most.
Benefits
Free
It doesn’t cost anything to stay updated on what’s going on in your state legislature.
Passive
There is more than one method of staying updated that lets the news be sent to you, rather than you having to seek it out.
Bigger picture
Laws and regulations have a much greater impact on sustainability than individual actions by state residents. Staying updated ensures you can contact your representatives before it’s too late.
More information
There are a few different ways to stay updated on unicameral news beyond simply watching local papers.
Nebraska BillTracker
Nebraska BillTracker is a free service that allows you to track the activity of up to 15 bills of interest each legislative session. You can select whether to receive daily summary emails, or to only receive an email when particular activities are done with the bill – such as being voted out of committee, or signed by the governor. The BillTracker also offers a paid service with many other features – however, the free tracking is often plenty for standard residents.
Unicameral Update
The Unicameral Update is ran by the State of Nebraska, and posts weekly updates on Nebraska legislature news. At the beginning of legislative sessions, the Unicameral Update will post brief summaries of newly introduced bills; as the session continues, the Update will post brief overviews of popular legislative news.
Social media
Following your (and other) state representatives and local reporters is a great way to casually stay updated on news in the Nebraska legislature.
