Methods of planning your ride

There are a few different methods of planning your bike ride here in Lincoln. The simplest method is just using Google maps, and opting for the ‘bike’ option – Google does the work of finding routes with an optimal mix of streets, sidewalks, trails, and bike lanes.

Other considerations

Planning your ride is about more than finding the right route. Be sure to consider aspects such as:

  • How early you need to leave
    • Lincoln has a city ordinance requiring front and back bike lights for those riding on the road between 1/2 hour after sunset, to 1/2 hour before sunrise (see more here)
  • Where you’ll park your bike
  • What the weather forecast is
  • Whether you’ll have materials to carry back (such as groceries)

Answering the above questions is key to ensuring that cutting your carbon emissions through riding your bike is an enjoyable, low-stress method of transportation.
