Community improvement grants help incentivize groups and individuals to pick up litter along public roadways and in public parks.

Community improvement grants

Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful (KLLCB) utilizes funding offered by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy to incentivize community groups and members to clean up litter in public spaces. Cleanups can take place any time between February 1st and October 31st of each year, and the incentive funding is offered based on the amount of cleanup that is done at the following rates:

$50/mile (roads, curbs, alleyways, etc.), or
$10/acre (parks).

Funding can be used as you (or your group) pleases; there are a few grant conditions that must be met (such as submitting photo evidence and having a plan in place to recycle recyclable materials), but nothing that isn’t reasonable to having an organized and sustainable litter cleanup!

Some supplies are available to use during the cleanup, such as trash bags, reach tools, safety vests, and more. You can indicate which of these supplies you would like when filling out the application at the link below titled “More information on grants.” It all really boils down to a three-step process – applying, holding the cleanup, and submitting a final report (to prove your work)!
