The first ride

Riding the bus is simple, but that doesn’t make the first ride any less intimidating. Click on the button below labeled “the first ride” for a detailed guide on riding the bus for the first time.

Looking for a visual? StarTran has produced a series of instructional videos on how to ride the bus, available in both English and Spanish. Find them at the link below.

Planning your ride

There are a few different ways to plan your ride – using a paper route map, StarTran’s online Trip Planner, using the RideLNK app, or through simply using Google Maps. Each digital method allows you to put in your starting location and destination, along with the time that you would like to leave at or arrive by; then, the programs will provide you with directions on what stop to wait at and when.

Purchasing bus passes

You can pay for individual rides in cash when you board the bus, purchase physical passes at locations around the community, or purchase individual rides or passes on the Token Transit app. Simply download the app, search for StarTran, and purchase your pass of choice!

More information on paying your fare is included in the First Ride guide.

Bus bike racks

View page 17 of the StarTran rider guide (see below) for information on using the bike rack available on the front of each bus.

LTU BusBuzz

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities has a text-based information system that can be accessed by texting “LTU” to 72727. You will then receive an automatic reply with a menu allowing you to access bus system information, file a compliment, suggestion, or complaint, register for alerts, find your bus’s real-time location, and more!

Bus emissions

Just over 75% of buses in the StarTran fleet are powered by either electricity or compressed natural gas (CNG), and that number has rapidly been rising over the last few years. This new, sustainable fleet of busses even further reduces the emissions produced by public transportation in Lincoln.

Looking to spot a bus powered by electricity? Look out for a green bus with a yellow cord on the side!
